Children and Chiropractic FAQs

Children and chiropractic care

At what age is it appropriate for chiropractors to see children?

The short answer is, when they have vertebral subluxations. Which often occur as a result of the birth process. Traumatic births, caesarean sections, aggressive vacuum extractions and the anesthesia administered to the mother can profoundly affect the newborn’s spine. Naturally, adjusting techniques are modified and require no more pressure than what you’d use to test the ripeness of a tomato.

Is chiropractic a safe treatment for colic?

Chiropractic is not a treatment for anything. Instead, the intent is to restore the integrity of the spine and nervous system and to revive the body’s ability to self-heal. If a newborn is suffering with colic or is unable to nurse, and also has vertebral subluxation, many parents have noticed remarkable improvement with chiropractic care.

Can chiropractors help with growing pains?

As children grow and their bodies are subjected to the physical stresses of learning to walk, ride a bike and countless other circumstances, some children will complain of joint pain or other more general aches. That’s why periodic chiropractic checkups are recommended for children, whose conditions often resolve quickly without the chronic, long-standing effects of neglect that are often seen in adults.
